The last weekend was the worst in my memory, I just didn't have time even to sit & talk with my parents & sis. Sunday, I stepped in to office to check the production jobs & guess what? It was 9.00 in the evening when I left office. Next weekend also I'm in support, god I'm already scared. :-(

I came early to office today for 3 reasons, 1. For Prodn support. 2. To Post this. 3. To go home early :-)

Do any of you have scanners ? I need to scan a huge volume of photos from our ooty trip. I was looking at some of our old photos today. Man we have really had fun. I was seeing our convocation photos when I remembered that it was the day of clash between India & Pak in World Cup. Of course India won, we were watching Pak's innings at Neela's place. Had food & Fun there. Cool.....

Though some may say we get undue advantage in a few things, the REAL TRUTH is, we get undue disadvantage in a lot of things.... It really takes great guts, tolerance and persistence to achieve things for a woman...

Only shocking thing is when she told she had to work 18 hrs a day while in Investment banking.... I had always dreamed for Management, to reduce my working hours :)

I think this is one of the very few habits I picked from my dad (from the umpteen number that he has). From the school days when I finished the Non-detail books to the present I'm addicted to them. My fav author used to be Jeffrey Archer, but these days it's J.K.Rowling, John Grisham & Michael Crichton. I have finished all of Archer's, Crichton's (except for 1 r 2), Grisham & most of Ludlum, Forsyth, Irving Wallace, Ken Follet, Harold Robbins, Robin Cook (all except COMA), Clive Cussler, Alistar Maclean, Erle stanley Gardner (Perry Mason) & a few of Sheldon, James Hadley Chase, Dick Francis & lots more that I can't recollect now.
I read both English & Tamil books (fiction & non-fiction). The best Tamil book I read is Ponniyin Selvan & the best English books I have read are The Man, Seven Minutes both by Irving Wallace, Kane & Abel, Prodigal Daugter, Eleventh Commandment, Shall we tell the president by Jeffrey Archer, The client, The Firm by John Grisham, A Place called Freedom by Ken Follet & lots more.

How can we say that the book is not good when there is so much following - Manoj
The reply to this is simple, not all thats popular is great. Just think of Anbe Sivam, such an astonishing movie but a big flop. So do u mean to say that it's a bad ? Davinci Code, is a good book in it's own right but it simply is not great.

Just think of the Harry Potter series, how much imagination J.K.Rowling should have had to create a magical world. More like The Matrix.

The past week has been quite a hectic one. These days I'm not doing anything useful, my Burn proj is stagnant & so is my DB2 preparation. It's gonna be like this till May-End, I guess. Anyway, the only fun that I have been having is playing Baldur's Gate-2 with my sis. But even that's gonna stop from today, as her model exams are gonna start :-(

I watched couple of very good movies sometime last week.

A Walk to Remember - This is a very romantic movie, Such a good one. Having seen quite a few Indian (romantic) movies, it's very much like them. I dunno, whether some of our movies lifted their theme from this one or vice-versa. But any it's one of the good Romantic one from Hollywood.

Eternal Sunshine of an Spotless mind - This one was very refreshing one, such a cool one. A different approach to a movie, I don't wanna reveal anything about this. Go watch it ppl......

It's a good book but not the best..... It din't impress me that much .....to justify all the hype associated with it.. But it was great courage to take a topic like that... and make a convincing novel....... I was impressed by his research on those topics...

When it comes to innovation, variety, or depth of knowledge, Michael Crichton is my Favourite.... He writes about extreme topics like Science, History, Society, Environment, Office Politics etc.... all with great excellence .....

Actually for me, Dan Brown's "pre"quel, "Angels and Demons" was more captivating.....though the end was not that convincing...

But SURELY......this book has got appreciation and attention MORE than what it deserves... Mainly because of the power and importance of Christianity in the Western World !!!

I felt Swades was a bit lengthy , not continuous, lot of bits and pieces... For the first time in a shah rukh movie, i was waiting for the intermission.

I liked the ending. Shah rukh completed his work successfully as a NASA scientist and then returned back to India.

I loved the songs..too good.

I still liked the movie..much better than any other recent hindi movie...excluding BLACK...

The last weekend I saw 3 movies. Maayaavi, Swades & Finding Neverland.

Maayaavi : - This movie is full length masala & is a money spinner only 'cause of surya's presence.

Finding Neverland :- Johny Depp proves again why he's one of the best in the business. I think kate winslet also performs too well, we wonder if she was the same lady who worked in Titanic.

Swades :- This is the best movie I have ever watched. I think this is the only non-romantic movie which is in my all time favs list (except for The Matrix). ShahRukh excels & showcases his acting abilities. I recommend you all to see this movie.

Per the movie's female protagonist, NRI - NON RETURNING INDIANS.... very true.

Alexander - The Great ?

The past few days have been really hectic, I'm just unable to find time for replying to mails, returning calls et all. I have conf call tomorrow morning & gotta sleep early but just before I hit the sack, I thought I would post a few thoughts.

A couple of weeks back I saw the movie Alexander (rather pathetic in its own right) with a friend of mine. I told my friend that I don't believe that Alexander was that great a guy (leave alone an Emperor). My friend just humbly reminded me that there are just 2 men who are called 'The Great'. One's the guy in question Alexander & our own Asoka.

Before talking about Aleaxander we just need to spare a couple of moments to Asoka. Asoka was one of the greatest Emperors in the Indian History. It's a historical fact that Asoka is one of the greatest warriors & was one of the very few to have defeated Kalinga. Kalinga has always been a very brave kingdoms & almost every war over Kalinga has resulted in enormous Man & Material damage to both the sides.

It's well known that Asoka transformed in to something more than a normal man or an Emperor after the Kalinga war. It's mainly for this tranformation & his efforts to in serving the humanity that he's known as Asoka The Great. Asoka & his son Mahendra (or Mahinda as known in SriLanka) spread Buddhism & followed the principles to the best possible extent. These gentlemen were one of the very first to spread buddhism in Srilanka, where currently Buddhism is one of the predominant religions.

Alexander, born to an greek Emperor, (I know bits & pieces of greek mythology) had most of the world known to men under his control in his early 20's. Thats a cool thing, but we need to give a few thoughts to this. As per the myth once he started on the conquests, he never returned back to his homeland. I really doubt if he made it to India in the first place, leave alone capturing babylon, persia et all. Even if we assume that he had captured all these countries & made it to India, he would have waged war with few kingdoms in the North western part of India (if he came via Hindkush). If my memory serves me correctly he won a war against King Purushotamma (PORUS), Porus demanded that he be treated as a king & Alexander did treat him as one. These are common history stuff in India.

Emperor is someone who has everything under his control. If Alexander was busy going on errands to capture kindoms, who'll make sure that everything is under control for him ? Man has been a horrible creature from the time he walked on the surface of mother earth. Alexander would have made more enemies than friends, for killing so many (if there had been wars) on both his side & the opposite. I feel Alexander was lucky that he was born such a long time back, had he been present during the days of Mauryas, Moguls or Lodis he would have been sent home packing.

Is it really correct to call a man great 'cause he rode through barren lands & fought with a few cities or towns with a larger than life force ? Other question is India, back then India was bigger than what it is today. just fighting with some tribes somewhere doesn't make anybody great or make him the Emperor for India.

I wanna say few more things, but am feeling too sleepy to state them now :-)

Faced with such a situation and willingness to vote will lead to vote for the favorite Party even if the candidate is an absolute 'Brat' ...

My opinion is that there is nothing wrong in comparing our country with more developed countries and improve ours. Only the way in which we put in our thoughts decide the result.

Ofcourse our country is improving a very lot, But for these Politicians we would be in much more heights... Even more than that People are to blame.

In US, UK or Japan, a candidate cannot win, if all his wrong actions are known to people.
But here if you see, whether You like a person or not, just because you have favoured the party previously, You will continue doing that... I know a lot of people who don't even bother to cast their vote...

I love chocolates, I just can't let a day or two go without having some chocolate. But I know one fine day, I might wake up to find out that I have sugar. But then everything has side-effects.

Diversity that we have in India is pretty cool, something any country would just envy. Of course there really are some shortcomings with us. Castes is just one of them, Classes are a different topic. Politics is not bad, Politicians are. They capitalise on the power of their group of people, to come to power & do almost next to nothing.

Let's just think for a couple of minutes, in the past 10 years India has taken some major strides in all aspects. I chose ECE bacause my friend said he's gonna take it up. There were hardly any IT companies in chennai except for Infy (in Alexander Square), Wipro (just across Infy), HCL & a few others. I heard of CTS only when Arivu & Anand got in to that company, that was when the boom started. No looking back after that.

If we see in the big picture the growth rate has been pretty good in the past few years. But again the problem is simple we see what's obviously more visible.

Say we wake up a fine day, find that our road has been laid freshly & unfortunately there's a small ditch in front of our gate. What do we say? we don't see the stretch of the road which is pretty good, we just give a mouthful to the poor fellow (wherever he was) & question a lot about his working capabilties.

Improvements in BSNL or Registrars office are just a very few. Even then our ignorance is such that we brand the improvements of BSNL as due to competition due to Reliance & other private operators. we don't see the effort that should have gone in for this change.

we all are pessimists, we always think about the negative things that go around us. we never ever try to look at the positive things that happens around us.

Technological Advancements due to Britishers ? that's a really bold statement. Technology for Green Revolution might be affordable for Farmers who could afford. But for the majority getting a tractor is a big deal, it's their hard work that resulted in Green Revolution & not due to frigging technology.

India had self sufficiency long before the Europeans came along. Europeans came to India as traders, if India was not self sufficient how can it attract Europeans ?

There were Greeks, Turks & Arabs trading with India since the days of Karikal Peruvalathaan. Harshavardhana had trading relations with the chinese king, Cholas had trading relations with Indonesia, Sumatra, Thailand, China & quite a few south east Asian countries. As a sign of good will an Indonesian King had built the famous Chudaamani Vihara in Nagapattinam for his traders & other people to worship. These are historical facts.

A little bit of even Tamil History would show how self sufficient we Indians were.
"Chozha Naadu Sorudaithu", "Pandy Naadu Muthudaithu".

India was the wealthiest country, before the Europeans came along.
Technologically India is a respectable power in space & in military, no thanks to any single country. The only country which has helped India is Russia, it has helped but not donated some technology.

USA, the only remaining superpower, used the voting machines that we have been using for the past 3-4 elections during the presidential elections in November. You should have seen the ads in US it said 'This Election Americans will vote using the latest technology in the world' They forgot to mention that it was Indians who invented & use it.

We all forget one major thing, when we criticise India we criticise ourselves. It's necessary for us to change.

Do you expect APJ Abdul Kalam & Manmohan singh to come & give a jist of what the constitution says? If you want to know the basic stuff there are 'n' number of abbr versions of our constitution available. we have to go get it & do with it what we want.
But unfortunately we hardly have any time to code programs, watch movie, whack our head off....... how to go spare time for these things.....

We need not know a single IPC to do right things, we just need balls to say no to the guy asking for bribe.

For us what's Election ? Going & casting vote to some guy & watch the debate on NDTV. Have we done anything at all other than this.

There's no point in just sitting & saying India is not improving & to quote Gaurav "my life here in Japan has really got me to realise the amt of dirt we live in ... in India"

The life in a country which is striving hard to make progress & break all the limitations that time has imposed on it is quite different & quite good.

If you expect some miracle & expect to wake up to a new India, then you are dreaming & yet to wake up. We all are here to do something towards the evolution of a new India.

I dunno if any of you watched the tamil Movie 'IVANN', Parthiban makes quite a few excellent points in that. to just tell one 'You can't expect a hero to come & solve your problems. You have to solve it yourself.'

Time to quit cribbing & post about what we can do to make a difference. Even ONE could make a difference, after all The ONE bent the Matrix to his will :-)

You are looking in a very wrong perspective

just getting ur phone connection easily or seeing a easy-going traffic police
is not exactly what I'm talking about....

my view is that our diversity is being used by politicians
to divide us..... and that our constitution is unsuitable....
and that we need some basic awareness of the law...

why do u end up giving a bribe to the police??
bcos u don't know the procedures and rules to
overcome that.... bcos the policeman can easily
trouble u knowing that u r ignorant of any law...

I'm not saying we are not to blame.... I'm

'Problem' - explained

Hi ppl, I smell something ... good for the blog ...

let me start with Gaurav's first blog ' Diversity - for the good or bad ??'.
I think Gaurav has a point ... even my neighbours in Kerala have called me 'Pandi'. Infact they address every tamilian as 'Pandi. Although the technical reason may be because the Pandyas ruled us, their context is to tease me and it is derogatory.
Just take this example ... Can you imagine a addressing localite from Kasimedu as 'Local' ... i think you won't come out with all your limbs ... if you have your head, you are lucky, though you addressed him as 'Native' to that place...
Policitics is a 'Koovam' and I mean it, so will many others ...
Many great people have indeed praised the Diversity and the Unity in Diversity, but there are problems and I guess Gaurav has just mentioned one that has happened to him ...

Comparison of India with US / Japan.
Many have indeed have praised the patriotism the Japanese show towards their languages. They just reject any atttempt to invade that very outrightly... However India doesn't have that cusion ... How will we get the Outsourced jobs if we have that kind of attitude ... Infact I think the 'Tamil' campaign that is sometimes carried by the TamilNadu govt. is bull shit.

If not all the IPC's, I think we should know some of the essentials. I am afraid, i dont know any ... True that the procedures at the places like Registrar's Office, Telephone exchange have improved ...
I guess the improvement with the Telephone Exchanges maybe because of stiff competition from providers like Reliance, Tata Indicom ...

The Issue is 'We' the educated have discussed this 'Corruption' issue too many times, but haven't done anything ...

Not so obvious solutions to the Problems in India

Now to the second post by Gaurav, this is really an interesting one. Infact many people I know, used to ask me the differences between US & India. I would just give a brief answer, that I usually give to others.

US is a very good place to go, visit & have fun. People are very good at following rules there, the roads are very good, the technology is very good, there are no buffalos in the road.

But you can't stay there forever 'cause you are an alien there. It's not your home, I feel better here in Chennai amongst the people who have fun by running in the middle of the GST Road at the peak hour traffic. I feel better waiting to let a buffalo pass b4 continuing on my bike.

The comparison between India & Somalia is worse, with or without English Indians survive. Just think, how many Indians know English. India is so diversified, you just can't think about having a single common language. That's the reason why there are so many official Languages.

I remember there used to be a mail from Abdul Kalam, that used to circulate between us. He would have stated that Indians going abroad behave very well, which they don't do in India. We don't put wastages in the Road, we don't run across the road when we are abroad but in India are we doing the same ?

Noone needs to know all the IPC's in Indian Law. We all know what's right & what's wrong. Say a police fellow catches you for a mistake that you made & asks you to pay fine. What'll you do? you'll just try to pay him off with a bribe of Rs.50/-, but you won't pay a fine of Rs.100/-. The damn problem is with us, we encourage these things.

I don't know if any of you have been to Sub-Registrar's office. I have been there twice, the first time was almost 4 years agao to get an Encumbrance certificate. Back then you had to fill a form give it to a guy outside (& pay him ofcourse). that Guy will say when to come & collect, he's not a government servant, but a broker kinda fellow. You just can't expect to fill a form & get the work done by yourself back then.

The second time I went was 6 months back, again to get an E.C. This time I just filled the form there was a counter & I just went gave it. The fellow there asked me to come back in a couple of days, I got it promptly. There were brokers but there are not the only way to get things done. India is improving whether you are aware of it or not.

Far away pastures always looks green, 'cause they are far away. We all are educated, so how many times did a chance occur where we can get the work done by saying no to 'Corruption'. A few months back i got a dedicated internet telephone line for my home. I remember the time, when we got our primary phone line (almost 8 yrs back). The line-men just demanded 500/- so that they'll activate it. This time around things had changed, I had informed my mom to not give any money to them.

As usual they installed the phone & demanded money saying that they have toiled blah blah. My Mom seeing that there were 5 guys, decided to give 50/-. The lead kinda guy for the group said this is not enuf & started arguing. My Mom said 'you can remove the connection & go away. we'll do what needs to be done & no money for u guys'. They said nothing & just went off. Nothing happened, the phone got activated in a couple of hours. I got a Broadband connection from BSNL a few days back. Men came installed went off, they never opened their mouth about money.

India is changing, the problem is not all people are aware of it. Some of us went to Mahabs a few months back, back then my insurance for the vehicle had expired & I never renewed it. We got stopped at a check-post, that guy asked for all our papers. Checked mine & said that my insurance had expired. I said I'll be renewing it in a couple of days. That Guy said fine & just gave me my papers back & we went on with our journey. Not everybody is bad here.

We all talked a lot about Tsunami, but do you know that India denied any international assistance. we took care of the problems we faced during that time. Moreover we sent a fleet of our ships to SriLanka to help people there & India made a financial contribution to the relief efforts there. India was part of the Global Four countries which started relief actions inspite of it being an affected country.

The difference between India & Japan (or US) is simple. You go to your colleagues house, his dad might be a drunkard, his brother might be a thief & so on. But when you are in their home they'll make sure you have a good time there.

The difference, IMHO, whatever may be India's shortcomings It's my Home. We all try to solve the problems in our home (in any little way possible) don't we?

for example, using caste to win votes..... happens everywhere...
using inter-State disputes eg. kaveri water to get political mileage....

decades back the big parties in T.N. all came to power.....
by going against Hindi.... and asking for separtate autonomy....

ppl like us in cities and IT may not feel it....

Madraasi - The word Explained

It's a good day to start the week. I have lots of work to be done by COB today, but a couple of blogs by one of my friends prompted me to set everything aside.

Now let us see the first probs that Gaurav has mentioned.... Who's really a Madraasi ? Now Since India is a vast country geographically it was know as North, South, East & West India. But the people in all these parts are INDIANS. The people in northern part of India, identify those in their southern counterpart by Madras (The State), In the days of Britishers Madras was the state which comprised the whole of south india back then. In those days it was known as Madras Presidency. Hence the name Madraasi, it's not something to be ashamed off, after all we all are brothers & sisters (except beautiful gals). So basically all varieties of people living here are people who speak a variety of languages, so we classify thoset c groups by their languages.

This all to it, nothing to do with we eating rice & they eating Wheat......

Now to the British policy of Divide & Rule, they just capitalised on the diversity. But then we all united to drive them out, didn't we?

English - is the undisputable and only gift that British rule has

when we were chatting away in a party.... one should she

99% of the ppl there don't know English.... believe me....

So, how did they overcome this??
every technical document has a Japanese version.... in fact
we need to make special requests to get English docs....
the reason - they have modified their language and have
some script to read and write foreign langauges in Japanese...
so who needs to learn English literals...
Japanese is used for all levels of education

corruption in Japan is nearly nill.....
the reason I can understand till now is that the law here is
strict and upto the changing times.... ppl are educated and
have a clear, uniform say....

India is divided into states..... states into regions and caste groups....
seeing national interest in an election takes a back seat when ppl
think about their regional problems....

how many of us are aware of our rights and what we should be
doing if we are in a legal problem.... or caught with a policeman
making wrong charges on u?? no one is aware of the law...

Hindi has not really been a problem for me....
but I have faced quiet a look of discrimination
whenever I go to my relatives's place.....

for the north Indians.... anyone from south and who
eats lots of rice is "Madraasi"....
person can be tamil, mallu, telugu.... he is still "Madraasi"

the baseline is.... there is a lot of diversity in our country....
100's of spoken dialects.... 25 official languages....
100's of cultures and following....

politicians in India very well follow the British - 'divide and rule'
policy still.... to keep their chairs....

our age old constitution has little potence between the huge loop holes....

my life here in Japan has really got me to realise the amt of dirt
we live in ... in India

we r proud of our diversity and culture.... but are we using it to
our advantage?? or what is the cost we are paying to get
whatever advantage we have??

"R u foreigners".... good comment....I also don't know much of Hindi.... too little... I can just understand decently when people speak (Courtesy Hindi films and Doordharshan)....

When I went to Hyderabad for a Quality Circle National convention during my Polytechnic days, we used to rehearse what and how we have to ask the Hotel servers, roomboys etc...

I am planning, planning, planning to learn Hindi for a quite a lot of years.... But my laziness overtakes my desire everytime... Hope I succeed in joining a course atleast this year :)

DB2 - Decisions

Couple of years back I was asking my friend some help to learn Java, I got this idea mainly 'cause IBM is a strong supporter of Java (& it's possible to do java programming in mainframes as well). It was a mail conversation & I told him my reason's behind my interest in Java. He just put a reply giving me the right pointers. He also mentioned there's no point in going on learning all the programming languages as there are N possible ways to present the data to the user, but very few ways to manage it.

To quote him "Every fool can Present Data,only few can Manage it.", thats when I really started thinking about the position I (& all similar application programmers) are in. I had got my first IBM DB2 certification the previous month & then I decided what I wanted to be. I got the next certification in another couple of months, now there's just 1 more thing for me to do to move away from application programming. Y'day I started with the preparation for the IBM DB2 DBA cert. I would get a chance to do the right things after that, who knows I might conquer my dream of presenting a paper on DB2 in the prestigious IBM DATA MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE.

Today morning Viji had sent a one word reply (sahiii was the word) to one of the (fwded) mails I sent & that started a comical discussion of all our hindi talents...... As Manoj has mentioned, I learnt the hindi that I knew mostly due to watching Hindi movies. I never got the chance to use my hindi properly (other than singing when nobody's around:-)) until we went to Delhi, when my dad got the National Award from Abdul Kalam. We were in Fatehpur Sikhri, when we got swindled something around 1000/- by a old fella (who talked as if he was the direct descendant of Akbar). It was like there's a small tomb of a holy man & it's believed that it's good if offer a cloth in the tomb (u might have seen in movies where they put clothes over the tomb). My sister was busy saying 'achaa', samjaa' to this guy, finally he said take 4 clothes & the price was around 2k.... I got pissed of started my hindi & clearly told him we don't need any (I don't remember the hindi wrods I used).... Now, that guy started begging & I said we'll take 1, that guy said u shud take it as a pair & all kachraa.....

My hindi always starts with "Kyaa Baaisaab", the best comedy was in one of the markets Karolbaarg or somewhere.... we were just going around to get soome presents to friends & I was bargaining with all hindi words I knew "yeh kuch zhyaadha hai", "itna kaon dega" & all :-)

There was another incident on the way to Delhi (from Agra), A guy was sitting beside my dad..... That fella looked like a well educated guy & he started a conversation with my dad in hindi. My dad can understand but not talk, he was answering in English, suddenly that guy asked why r u not replying in hindi..... My dad said "I dunno Hindi" & immediately that guy asked "R u Foreigners?".... It was so comical.....

But It also shows what diversity really is, what India really is, My aim is to see most of the indian landscapes in my lifetime.....

Poor are we the people in TamilNadu, which I guess is the only state which doenst encourage the use of our National Language, 'Hindi'.

A tamilian would certainly struggle in the Central & Northern India where Hindi is the game and even knowing English would do very little good.

As expected, I was to struggle when i shifted to my new company based on Pune. But wait a minute, I was not the Average Tamilian(one who doesn't know Hindi ... I mean). Somewhere from deep within i was familiar with this language. Atlease I could understand this language well, that means it wont be a struggle after all.

Thanks to Doordharshan, those where the days when the modern Cable channels were a distant dream. And every Saturday/Sunday featured a classic Hindi Film. I guess I have link my familiarity with this language to these weekend starrers.

To spice it up, here is a list of Hindi words we (Me, Ramanathan & Venu) use commonly.

I went to ATM to withdraw money and forgot to collect the debit card. Never realised that i lost it until yesterday evening when i got a call from someone to collect my debit card.

Felt lucky...to have it bac without any trauma, after effect of loss ...with the same balance in my account....

Small things make me feel lucky...:-))

Atlast I got Broadband. I have been longing for this for ages...... There are lots of good things about BSNL's Dataone.

1. I easily clock between 35 - 40 kb/s, which's damn fast compared to dialup
2. The setup is quite simple. u just need an adsl modem & ann ethernet card.
3. IT WORKS OUT OF THE BOX FOR LINUX - This is what swept me off my feet :-)

till june usage is unlimited, I'm planning to make the best of it......

At My office:

To know my tax for the year , i went to

meet a person in my office. There he calculated my tax and showed it to me.
Then he gave a print out of the same and asked me to collect it.

That time two of my collegues were taking Xerox of some papers. So i wanted to join them. With my busy mind
i went to collect my printout ....waiting for bit long time.But i didnt get my print out.
I started prasing my office printer.

My collegues asked me what i am looking for????? I told for pintout.
Both started laughing loud.

I was standing before the Xerox machine,
for the o/p.

Great people carry many things in mind.

This weekend I saw RAM. My friend & I went to Mayajaal in hope of some movie & there was no movie except this at the time we went. we decided to take the risk & catch the movie. I expected it to be really horrible, but it turned out to be better.
The first half is good & the second is usual masala, tried in a different angle.

Overall the movie is watchable. Raguman (Rahman ?) is very good & watchable. Literally he looks more the hero than Jeeva. Jeeva too has did his homework this time around. Kajala was very very good. I somehow didn't like her in her previous ventures, she looks ravishing in this. Maybe 'cause the usual cinema elements is not present in this.

Me too was busy with some release works.......

Without my active participation, I find the blog has not yet got the star status... Naturally :)

Last week, We had family day celebrations here at Visteon. 'twas great fun.... After our Meggidos, I've rarely had chance to celebrate and enjoy ... Here they divided the people into 4 teams... and each team had to perform a 15 minute talent show...

In my team, I was the leader :) I whistled for the song "Raasaathi Unna kaanadha nenju".... sung "Kaasu mela" and choreographed for the song "Saathikadi" from Sukran....we enjoyed it to the core...... the DJs organised the show well... we had dance almost the whole day....

Nirai's team also did well... She choreographed for the song "Kumbida pona Deivam" from Thirupachi... :)

Enna indha koothula 1 week fulla practise practisenu velaiyae seiyala :( So I had to double work till now... From Monday I hope I will resume normal work....

Atlast I'm a bit free. The past 3-4 days have been a bit hectic in a long long time.

The programming stuff that I posted is not my work related, it's something that I'm doing out of interest (& is in no way related with my work). If you are doing something (for which u r not getting paid), pls let us know about that :-)

Despite my busy schedule (too much, right ?:-^)), I learnt about working with Linkedlists in C#. How easy without pointers, it is.

I may have to come to office tomorrow, depends on how well my miraculous program screws things by EOD. Anyway there's a movie in the cards for this weekend, although I haven't decided which to catch. Then should continue my adventures with PS2. My sis is doing great in the co-op mode of Dark Alliance-2. I'm proud to say that I'm pretty horrible when compared to my sis. But then she can't even finish POP, NFSU in her dreams..... My dad has been shouting at both of us for playing games in PS2.

I remember my parents telling me that I shud not play games & concentrate on my studies when I was a kid. But now, the question they pose to us in an amazing oxymoron. The q is "r u 2 still kids playing games?". What am I suppose to answer....

I think we should applaud Manoj for all the efforts that he takes to make this blog interesting. Poll is just one such thing. well done machan..... I'm stacked with the quite a bit of work these days, hopefully it should change next week. I had got some materials on GPRS & gave it to my sis for a seminar. It seems that the material was very good (thanks to google & gokul :-)) that my sis's prof wants more of those so that she can take some seminar. I wonder how ppl can be so lazy/naive. Then what happened to Gaurav..... he's usually one of the best vetti's around, these days he's busy running behind geisha gals.... Hence he has no time to interact with us.......

This weekend happened to be a full fledged roaming weekend to me. Saw a couple of movies & got a few dvd's. Apart from them I found a few things about programming.

This weekend I had hoped to write the code to blank out a cd-rw using libburn/nautilus-cd-burn. Finally they created all sorts of problems that I had no other option but to spend my time analysing a lot about those 2 libraries. It seems basically nautilus-cd-burn uses cdrecord for burning, it's more like a wrapper library with a good amount of advanced functions. As for Libburn it's the perfect library but the development is very slow. I think a C# wrapper to it would be real nice. Thats would make lots of things easy for me. There are 2 roads b4 me now...... 1. Either use cdrecord (which somehow I'm not comfortable with) 2. Libburn - This lacks a lot of features, but it's a library. To use this, I have to concentrate on creating a wrapper to libburn; to make things simple for me. Before choosing one of the ways, I have decided to understand/learn all theoretical concepts related to optical media burning. Few days of reading is something which lies b4 me.

Meanwhile I have to improve the gui for this. Lots of work to be done......

Manoj, one small request..... I think it would be better if you post a general link to things like budget & the job fair. I understand the nobleness behind ur act :-)

We were so happy to see the way they were running their family ... full of fun ....

Actually Manoj was sleeping when we called and Vaishu dear was washing clothes....
Then Vaishu certified ...Manoj-um romba poruppaam :)

Actually Manoj paavam....Vaishu is too poruppu than I thought,
she was fighting with Manoj that they should not get a Washing machine
for just two people, the poor guy was arguing that why should we pain ourselves
washing clothes.....Then finally Vaishu somehow got convinced to get a Washing machine :)

After a very long time, I'm back to my routine of sleeping less in the nights & more in the daytime. For almost couple of weeks I'm sleeping at 1.30 - 2.00 in the morning. For the past 3 days the reason I stay awake is valid, IMHO. Y'day I did the samething that I have been doing for the 2 nights b4 that. I redesigned the basic window for my app using GTK.ActionEntry. Man, Gtk is so cool. That to with the C# wrapper it's too simple to code (IMHO). The Window is ready now, I have to think about the rest.

Now, that I'm atleast doing what I intended to, I can tell what this app of mine is gonna do. I'm planning to develop a Gtk based CD burning app. But the probs that I face now is how to go about this. K3B is the best CD curning app available for Linux, IMHO. It uses cdrecord & other cdrtools. I dunno whether to use this or libburn (the development for this is very slow) or libnautilus-burn (this might be a good choice). For now I'm just gonna use libburn to erase the CD, this I hope to finish over the weekend. Then, I have to learn a lot about libnautilus-burn & see if it's fine to use that.

This is the big picture, It's gonna take lots of time & ofcourse, hardwork to get something done. I hope I can get this done.

Viji u look really good in saree..... Same applies to Vaishu. Vaishu u look wonderful in saree, but in Salwar u look like the same old LOOSE. I'll upload the few wayanad photos that were taken in my cam today. I'm currently playing Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2, in a 2 player co-op mode with my sis. It's really easy to handle big Villians in a 2 player mode. I think I'll run out of games by March-end. should get few more titles through friends who come down from u.s.

Mono, Glade & Me....

Atlast I surprised myself. I successfully downloaded Mono 1.1.4 & installed the same on my slack. Then I sat with Glade to design the thing (I don't wanna say what app I'm planning) that I had in mind. That was when I realized that I forgot the little bit about GTK that I had learned a while back. But anyway that's not a probs. I'm sure I can get back to pace in a short while. The good thing is that I have started something seriously. If I can get a basic working model, then I wud feel good.

Y'day was a real bad day, too much of work. Today I plan to give a read thru the GTK+ tutorial that I printed long ago (I have to find out where it is in the mess, that I call my room). Then I question myself what I wanna do ? I'm somehow not content with what I, already, am. Should do something different..... But the question is WHAT?

This weekend was one of those rare ones, when I miss catching a movie. I was feeling tired & desired to fiddle with my comp & get some sleep. But I ended up playing games with PS2.

Incase some of you wonder what Mono/Glade/GTK means....

GTK+ - It's a toolkit to build anything. GNOME is an amazing example.

You can open more than one tab on the same window & you can view different pages in different tabs and navigate by 'Tabbing'. And the cool thing is you can save these tabs as a Folder, so the next time you want all the pages to open as tabs, you just open the folder. Cool Huh??

We toured the Caves, Ajanta (famous for its Paintings) & Ellora (famous for its Sculptures).

We also visited the Aurangazeb's Tomb, 'Mini' Tajmahal & the Daulatabad Fort.

Well, You can consider this as a continuation to my previous three Posts. I'll date this one also...

10-02-2005 Thursday
We took the Mumbai Express from Chennai Central (11:45 AM). And this trip didnt turn out to be like one of those boring trips alone to Pune. I had company and I enjoyed it. The surprising fact was that Our Parents got along very well. Myself & Vaishu shared a Side Upper/Side Lower seat.

11-02-2005 Friday
Reached Pune by 10:00 AM. Our Cab was already waiting, i had booked it earlier with the help of my friends (Ram & Venu) at Pune. All the others liked our new Rented home very much.

It is a 2-Bedroom Flat (you'll wonder why - ofcourse it is for you guys when u come to visit us) with lot of sunlight. Its one the first floor and the Owner stays in the ground floor. We had our Brunch at a nearby place called Pradosha Pooja Association where we get good South Indian food.

Rested for sometime and then started unpacking the stuff and setting up the house. We got a Steel Almirah that day itself.

12-02-2005 Saturday
Some more setting up of the house. We (Myself & Vaishu) got a gas connection and our Parents went shopping to the City. In the evening we went to a nearby 'Kerala' style Krishnan Temple.

13-02-2005 Sunday
We got ourself a Fridge. Also we travelled to a place called Narayanpur where there is a 'Tirupathi' like Perumal temple. Its a really good temple.

We took the train (Mysore Express) to Mysore. This was our first trip together on our own. Vaishu's Sis, Nithya gave us some books to read. But who was going to read books? :))

We reached Mysore at about 11:00 AM, the train was an our late. The pick from Orange County Resort was ready and we took our 2 1/2 hour journey to the beautiful Coorg.

We were warmly welcomed by the receptionist. We enjoyed the Welcome drink (Sugar Cane Juice). We were elaborated on our Stay Package and given the key to Cottage:602.

Our luggage was already checked in and it was a beautiful room, with a pleasant Window-view. River Cauvery was at a walkable distance.

We took the lunch amidst a very hospitable restaurant staff. By the way, the restaurant was named, "The Granary".

We spent the time walking around the Resort area, their activity center "The Pulper" and a little shop.

We took to Cycling in the morning. We went to the Cauvery banks by cycle. I got Vaishu a wrap-around with a matching top and she got be a short Kurta. She tried it on & looked great.

We went to the Plantation trip, the guide giving us some interesting facts about the types of coffee grown there. The plantation was huge and they were growing three types of coffee 'Arabica', 'Robusta' & 'Liberia'. We came to know that the Coffee has to be grown in complete shade and there were numerous Silver - Oak trees to provide shade. Almost all the trees had 'Pepper' wines, which is a creeper plant.

They were also growing the Money Plant, 'Vannila'

In the early mornings, we went to the Dubare Elephant Camp. It had many tamed Elephants, Indra, Prashantm, Harsha to name a few. We had cross a small river on a motor-boat to reach the place. We took photos of touching their tusks, feeding them etc. We also went on a Safari ride.

Next we went to a small park called Nisghardhama. Was similar to our Guindy Park.

Then we went to the 2nd largest Tibetian Settlement in India, The Golden Temple of Budha. Luckily, there was some ceremony going on with many Budhist monks dressed up colorfully.

We took our cab back to Mysore. We went to the Mysore Palace, Museum and to the Brindhavan Gardens. By 8:00 pm in the night we took our train back to chennai. In the end it was an eventful journey.

The Day of Our Reception. I still was not fully convinced that this was really happening. Spent the day at home doing some customs like giving dakshanai's to elders and getting their Ashirvads.

Left to the Kalyana Mandapam by 4:30 PM. Got the first glimpse of my 'to be' Wife. Spending some time there with our Friends, I was really worried that our friends took it very seriously that I had not called them up. I thought that i need not be that formal and I can expect this out of them. But understood some things have to be done Formally. We went to the Ramar Koil, where we ahd our Engagement Done.

I was taken back to the Mandapam on that Standard 'Mapillai Azhaipu' Car. Just before the Manadapam, it went down and Ppl had to push it till the Manadapam. They brought our 'Beautifully Dressed' Vaishu to me and we were invited onto the Stage. From then on it was Fun. We were the center of attraction and we get to see many of our Friends, Relatives.

Took to sleep very late that Night.

Was woken earlyt by 3:30 AM, to undergo some customs. After that dressed up in the traditionals and again a long list of customs again. And finally Hurrah!! we got Married. We (Me, Vaishu, Gokul, Vijay, Nirai,Mohan & Suja) had a nice chat after our Break Fast. We got see ourselves in the Digi Cam of Nirai's.

At about 1:00 PM we went to the Registrar's and got our Marriage Registered. We returned home and spent the rest of the day there.

It was my Sis's Wedding Anniversary. We went to her house, had a nice lunch and had a nice time Chatting. They (My Sis & Swami) really make great pair, Swami - Calm & Caring and My Sis - Sweet & Mischievous.

We got back home in the evening.

We went to Vaishu's place and spent the day there and returned back home. The elders said that we were not supposed to stay at a place, where we went for 'Virundhu'

We again went to Vaishu's place and this time we stayed there.

I took a Bus from Pune to B'lore.

Reached B'lore by about 11:00 AM. Called up Thanigai, got his address and took an Auto to BTM Layout. We had Break Fast there.

We went to the 'Forum' for shopping. Bought a casual suit, A pair of Red Tape shoes, a Shirt. Had a nice Non-Veg lunch at 'Nandini'.

Returned to his room where we took a short stint of Amateur Bachelor's Cooking.

Took the Bus to Chennai at about 10:30 PM

Reached my new Home, at Sabari Nagar. It was my first day at my new place. My Parents and My Sis where there. Had a nice Chat with them. Some relatives from Kerala where also there. Took to sleeping the whole day and had a phone chat with my then 'Would be Wife'.

Spoke to almost all of my relatives. Spent almost the entire day in giving invitations to my Old X - class mates. Spent the entire night/next day early morning playing cards till my eyes went red with sleep.

Went to Spencers along with my cousins, Sis and Mama (Swaminathan). Here I need to mention an interesting event.

We had Veg Dinner at Nandini at the Food Malls. I asked for Hot water as I had a sore throat. The waiter promptly said that it was too late and they have run out of Hot Water (Man, if they can give me cold water why not Hot water). I said fine and ordered a Hot Coffee. We were about to leave when I saw a Sign reading 'Suggesstions/Complaints Send SMS to some Number'.

I took my my mobile and typed in 'Let there be Hot water at all times' and was keying in the Mob number given in the banner. While I was a doing this a man came running to me and asked whether was any problems. I said no and that i was about to send in a suggestion. He asked what the issue was and I told him that I didnt get Hot water. He said please wait for a minute and I got my Hot water in less than 30 secs.

I was really amazed, though felt bad for the waiter who got a nice shower from the Manager.
